Spoilers after the cut.
"All Is Lost", huh?
Well, I'm not sure about that. All is not quite lost, as there's a massive HINT (bold and italics for emphasis) that Ukitake is going to do something.
My guess is that whatever Ukitake is going to do has roots in the shadow we saw him leave behind when last we saw him with Kyouraku.
It's all vague and mysterious. And really, that's no surprise whatsoever.
Even when things might be in such a state that you know how they'll proceed, there's still a curveball waiting to make you question the goings-on.
The manga is such that the questions get ridiculous, especially in this sequence where weeks have gone by and little has happened. Since Bach stabbed the Soul King, the manga as a whole has ground to a halt.
So what we have this week is everyone reacting to the Soul King's impending demise. And Bach gets trapped in a sharpened web that probably will do little good.
Oh, and Orihime's power that supposedly "transcends into the territory of the gods" (or whatever nonsense Aizen spouted years ago)? Not quite as useful on the Soul King as it is on Ichigo. Or other shinigami. Or arrancar.
