Bleach 623 - Against the Judgment

Another Bleach chapter is out, so let's talk about it.

Spoilers after the cut.

Aizen attempts to take out Reioukyuu with just his reiatsu and some of the Stern Ritter turn traitor.

I'm not sure where this chapter is going.  I thought after last week that Aizen would actually assist the shinigami in getting to Reioukyuu.  Whoops, that was obviously a mistake.  Now he's trying to destroy the place (apparently), but Soul Society's technology is too strong for that.  Ironic, considering that the Soul Society looks like Meiji-era Japan and advanced technology should not be a strong suit of theirs.

Then the Stern Ritter (or what's left of them outside the elites that are currently with Bach) come back.  I really don't get the point of this.  Their role in the story is much less important than even the shinigami right now.  Yet, here they are, demanding to go up to Reioukyuu so that they can kill Bach.

It seems obvious that their chances of killing Bach are zero.  Much like the shinigami they're bargaining with, they're just not strong enough to kill a godlike figure.

Also, with the focus on Seireitei, we have no idea where Ichigo is, nor do we know what Bach is doing.  Has he successfully absorbed the right hand of the Soul King?  Has he become a personification of the Soul King?

The questions we want answered are being ignored.  As are the characters that matter most in how the story will end.  But that's business as usual as the manga gets stretched to 700.
