The newest Bleach chapter is out. So may we discuss it? Yes, we may!
Spoilers and concentric circles after the cut.
Okay, let's take a deep breath.
Now, if you've read Dune, you'll recognize what I'm about to say, as it seems particularly relevant to this part of Bleach's overall story.
Feints within feints within feints!
Yeesh, the cliffhanging and trolling is hanging right off the cliff of being TOO MUCH.
Okay, Kubo probably fell off that cliff sometime during the Winter War arc (or invasion of Karakura Town, if you prefer). Maybe it was even earlier than that.
But let's be honest here: it's getting a bit ridiculous. First, Rukia comes in to fight As Nodt and just whips his ass. It seemed too easy, obviously, and of course it was. There's no way As Nodt was going out like that. So then he has his little comeback and puts Rukia in danger, which brings out her brother, Captain Kuchiki Byakuya. As Nodt apparently was waiting to draw Byakuya back in so as to finish him off or show him "true despair" or some other nonsense that Bleach's villains indulge in.
Byakuya is now so over-powered thanks to going to heaven that he was able to disable (if not outright destroy) As Nodt's super eyeball fear thingy using only his shikai. As the man himself adroitly points out, his bankai requires the entire sword, hilt, guard, and handle included. He's merely using his shikai to disable/dismantle/destroy As Nodt's power, so as to release his "sister" from her fear-induced torpor.
HOW BEAUTIFUL!
If that weren't enough for one chapter, Rukia has one more surprise in her sleeve: bankai. I think we can now safely facepalm ourselves and walk away in disgust.
Of course, we'll only end up returning next week to see if Hakka no Togame actually worked.
