Bleach 636 - Sensitive Monster

Another Bleach chapter is out, so let's talk about it.

Spoilers and inflatable heads after the cut.

In a way, it's incredible to see what happened in this chapter.  Other characters are debating what to do while Kenpachi and Mayuri take on Pernida, Kenpachi gets incapacitated for the moment, and Pernida looks like he/she/it is going to transform into something else.

While it's interesting to see what Pernida's power actually is (and really, that's the only truly pertinent part of 636), saving the reveal for next week is pretty fucking annoying.

Also, seeing Mayuri as a fighter is totally uninteresting.  Mayuri's main draw is his sadistic personality, along with his scientific background and inventiveness. When applied to combat, the result has been ass-pull after ass-pull (especially in the fight against Szayel Apollo).  In non-combat situations, he's far more tolerable.

Kenpachi being taken out so early in the fight (not to mention, he's still wearing the eyepatch?!) means that he'll probably be unavailable later on.  If his last fight in the manga is against Pernida, I guess that's fine, since I don't view him as a character strong enough to take on Haschwald or Bach, much less beat them.  But going down against Pernida, especially in this fashion?  It's kind of a waste of one of the supposedly stronger characters.

And I can't leave off without emphasizing again that saving Pernida's reveal for next week (or worse, the week after) is unnecessary.  And still annoying.
