Another week, another Bleach chapter, so let's talk about it.
Spoilers and names that might be more real than other names after the cut.
The fight between Mayuri and Pernida continues. It's still uninteresting on the whole, since Mayuri's "modified bankai" gambit failed and he and Nemu have each lost an arm.
So the major revelation this week is that of Nemu's actual name.
Kubo is obviously fascinated with names. Hyousube Ichibei's power is tied into names. Renji and Yumichika were both troubled by the fact that they weren't given their zanpakutou's actual name. And now we have Nemu, who is actually Nemuri Nanagou.
As far as what it means, exactly, since I don't have access to the kanji used in the name, I have no clue. I would very much like to know, as names in the manga often (but not always) have some sort of relevance to the character.
I can't speak intelligibly to the difference between names in American and Japanese cultures. There most certainly IS a difference, that much I can figure out.
But as to what "Nemuri Nanagou" means and how it relates to the character that we've been familiar with for much of Bleach's 14 years of serialization, I don't know just yet and can't really speculate.
It is definitely fascinating, even if this kind of turn is something that Kubo has done before.
