The Bridge (US) - Season 2, Episode 5 "Eye of the Deep" Recap

As we approach the midpoint of Season 2, it's getting easier to follow. Hopefully this is a trend that continues!

Spoilers after the cut.

The arc of Episode 5 is intriguing, but ultimately a disappointment.  The main story (although calling it that is a bit of a misnomer) is Marco's quest to finally meet up with David Tate again.  Yes, that David Tate, the one who murdered Marco's son and many other innocents.

Fausto Galvan gives him the OK and has him secreted in a box that is delivered inside the El Paso Federal Correction Unit.  Marco then masquerades as a prisoner and with the aid of a guard (paid off by Galvan, one would assume) gets into the hospital area of the prison where Tate is resting after an attack at the beginning of the episode.  All Marco does from here is stab Tate in the neck and say that Tate's time is not yet here.  So Marco intends to kill Tate, that much is certain, but he does not do it in this episode.

Given the time spent to get Marco into that room with Tate, it's a disappointment that something more solid doesn't happen.

Sonya's first appearance finds her in the bathtub.  She apparently has a thing for lying in the tub while being entirely submersed.  And then she raises up out of the water and gasps.

She leaves her house for the day, but before doing so has a quick chat with Jack Dobbs.  What is more interesting is the fact that Dobbs is collecting his brother's drawings and considers them while they're laid out in a certain order on Sonya's counter.  So far, he has yet to tell her anything about the drawings, nor has he mentioned that he stole one from her fridge.  If there is a single event that could determine something going forward, it is Dobbs standing in front of the drawings looking at them thoughtfully.

Sonya meets up with Hank and heads out to Bob's "sanctuary" with the Mexican prosecutor Pintado.  Their aim is to convince Eva to give a deposition and eventually testify against the men who kidnapped her.  She points out a cop and Capitan Robles.  She does this much to Linder's dismay; he doesn't appear to want her involved with the cops any more.

Later on, Sonya saves Pintado from a couple of Juarez cops while Pintado is looking for Marco.  She is also the recipient of Jim Dobbs' ashes, since Jack Dobbs wants nothing to do with them.

Charlotte and Ray play a bit part in this episode.  They are handed an apartment complex, which Cesar (the former ranch hand, apparently) will take care of while they're away.  They are then quickly driven off by Monte Flagman.

The other major event is a meeting between Frye and DEA agent Joe Mackenzie.  Mackenzie has been ordered by the CIA (a fellow named Buckley, specifically) to halt investigation into Rayburn and its connection with money from Fausto Galvan and the Clio Group.  Since Mackenzie can't do any more investigating into Clio, he hands it off to Frye.  Meanwhile, Sebastian, Clio's CEO, appears to have a problem with a lady.  She's addicted to drugs and rehab didn't take the first time around.  He also has a quick chat with Eleanor Nacht.

So that's all for Episode 5.  See you next week for my recap of Episode 6.
