Dealing with the aftermath of a gunfight and betrayal.
Spoilers after the cut.
In a way, Season 2 of The Bridge was leading up to last week's bloodbath at Red Ridge. After all, the opening of the first episode was a shortened sequence of what we saw last night after the first commercial break. Monte Flagman walks into the house, slips in the blood, takes a business card, and meets up with Eleanor.
Of course, there are a couple changes. Now he makes a phone call and stomps on the receiving phone, plus he tells Jaime and Cesar that it's "clean-up time". Then he takes Eleanor out of the house and to a frontier doctor.
The episode begins with a bit of a flashback. Remember Yovani? I'm surprised I did, really. At any rate, after purchasing a drink, Eleanor walks out to the red car (it's so dark that I couldn't tell what model it is, if it makes a difference) that Yovani is driving, but she notices that he's reading something. Turns out that this is an important piece of the puzzle of "Eidolon": the ledger in which Eleanor keeps all her data organized. That one book holds the key to everything she's done for Fausto Galvan and his drug cartel.
Naturally, with Eleanor being who she is, she's not happy about Yovani looking at the ledger. She's even more displeased when he asks to see more of her body and responds by stabbing him in the neck a few times.
After Monte takes Eleanor away from Red Ridge, the frontier doctor fixes her up, mostly. She's still upset about the ledger. Cesar eventually brings in Hank Wade; the doctor is then forced to fix him up while Monte (in a fresh hat) bids them farewell for the moment. Eleanor forces the doctor to wake Hank, but he's in no mood for negotiation.
Sonya and Marco meet up at her house. They ride in to El Paso PD together, where they're told by Cooper that Hank went out with the DEA but has yet to return. The rest of the episode for them is spent trying to find Hank. In the meantime, once Jaime is stopped and then arrested, they look over the bodies that were in the back of the truck Jaime was driving. Marco finds that Charlotte is one of them and is saddened by it.
Galvan, meanwhile, is just hanging out with his most loyal follower, Obregon. He says that it's time to change plans. It turns out that the plan is to kidnap Sebastian Cerisola's daughter Romina and "make a video". It sounds like Galvan is after ransom money, though I don't think money will solve all of his problems.
Frye and Adriana are back in the story after what seems like a short absence. Since Frye was apparently fired from the El Paso Times, his presence in the office is an aberration, one that Adriana readily points out. But when he asks her if she's still in, regarding the story they've been chasing, she assents. They head over to Red Ridge, but are turned aside by Cooper. So they decide to follow a CIA agent (the one who was seen talking to Cerisola, funnily enough) to a diner where he gets chewed out by a lady who looks "like a boss".
The most exciting moment in the episode, of course, is reserved for the last few minutes. Sonya and Marco are hot on Eleanor's trail, somehow. I guess they tracked the car that Cesar took from Red Ridge; that part wasn't entirely clear.
However, the next part is crystal clear: Sonya guns the engine and runs right into the car Cesar is driving. Marco gets out to check on Hank while Sonya slowly chases after Eleanor, who's slowly walking away. When Sonya tells her to get on the ground, Eleanor complies...by collapsing in a heap.
Next time, an interrogation?! That's what it looks like!
Of course, this might also mean that like in Season 1, part of the story is going to come to a crashing halt a couple weeks early.
