The Bridge (US) - Season 2, Episode 9 "Rakshasa" Recap

A violent episode this time around.  Characters are threatened and/or killed off outright.

Spoilers after the cut.

The main story this time around revolves around Marco and Sonya.

Although I guess it would be fair to say that Grupo Clio's CEO Sebastian Cerisola gets an assist.

Marco goes in to work and notices a girl being taken toward the cells.  He knows that it's Sebastian's daughter, and he asks one of the other cops working there what's going on.  As we saw a couple minutes earlier, she was arrested for drug possession (I'm guessing).  She was hanging out with a low-level drug dealer and getting high off of his supply before getting more money from a local ATM. Apparently, her drug-dealing buddy lives in a dangerous neighborhood, and the cops are really just taking her out of there for her own protection.

At any rate, Marco goes and talks to her, figures out that she's Romina Cerisola (if he wasn't already aware), and then talks to Sebastian himself when the CEO comes calling to pick her up.  Capitan Robles edges in on their conversation for a moment, but he's not privy to the most important detail.  Sebastian knows that "the Chopper" has taken Sonya, and in return for his daughter he lets Marco in on this fact.

Say what you want about Marco, but the guy is loyal.  Once he hears about "the Chopper", he gets righteously pissed and goes off to find Sonya.

What's interesting at the beginning is that Cesar and Eleanor (who are now good buddies) are just outside of Sonya's apartment when the abduction takes place. So they know that "the Chopper" has taken her as well.  They don't do anything about it, but they know.

While Marco is running around in the middle of nowhere, Eleanor is executing plans.  In the car with Cesar, she says that Charlotte is needed.  She also wants Jaime along, and apparently wants Cesar to teach him how to use a machete.

This sets up the other big event, the sale of Red Ridge (or a certain piece of it, it's hard to tell).  Charlotte signs over her ownership to ...some guy.  A notary is there to make it official too.  Prior to Charlotte arriving, Cesar and Jaime take out the realtor Chip Diaz for talking to the cops.  The first surprise comes in the form of the DEA, whose agents had been watching Red Ridge along with Sonya's boss, Hank Wade (keepin' their eyes on the prize).

After the transfer is official, Agent McKenzie, his Mexican counterpart, and Hank come steamrolling in.  But before they can get their official business done, they're interrupted by one of Galvan's hit squads.  In the shootout, Cesar and Eleanor come out relatively unscathed, while Hank is injured and bleeding out as he crawls away.  But Charlotte and the DEA agents aren't so lucky.  Neither are Galvan's men, as the episode ends with Eleanor shooting the surviving gunman twice...ensuring that he doesn't actually survive.

That's pretty much it for "Rakshasa".

It's too bad about Charlotte.  I think her character was under-utilized.  She didn't make many appearances in the second season, and it really seemed like there was nothing for her to do.  She was convinced to move on by Ray, which never seemed like a good idea, or something that she would have done on her own, given the way her character was headed.  In fact, after the events of Season 1, it looked like she was going to become a bad ass.  That never happened in Season 2, or what little of it she appeared in.  I thought the character certainly had more to offer, but the writers didn't give Charlotte a lot to do or much to work with this time around.
