Things are looking a bit bleak for the main characters.
Spoilers after the cut.
Fausto Galvan is an interesting fellow. That's not to say he's a good guy; the beginning of the episode shows him making a video wherein he threatens Sebastian Cerisola and his daughter's life.
But the way the filming unfolds is kinda funny, in a morbid way. And it's not like he's treating Romina so badly; she tries to bite Obregon a couple times and he gets his feelings hurt as a result.
Then Fausto heads to the neighbor's place to have a dance with a young girl at her quinceanera. He also hands a wad of cash to her father.
I guess what I'm saying is that Galvan is a complicated guy. He's not a one-note evil piece of shit like David Tate, to be sure. And Ramon Franco, as an actor, does a fabulous job week-in and week-out playing a character who could be about as unsympathetic as anyone on the show, and yet, thanks to Franco's immense talent, Galvan comes off not only as an intriguing villain, but a sympathetic character.
Not as sympathetic as the cops, of course. Or maybe Frye.
The cops are set on diverging paths in this episode, despite going to meet a "justice official" in Mexico together. Sonya is still fixated on Eleanor Nacht, but the DEA and CIA seem to be conspiring together to get Nacht out of sight, out of mind and thwarting Sonya's intentions. However, Cooper is able to get her in a room with Eleanor, which results in an awkward and not especially epic confrontation.
Marco meets up with an old friend nicknamed Cuco. They share a beer, and then Marco is convinced he knows where Galvan is hiding afterward. He has a marine escort along for the ride as he arrives at the ranch. Of course, they're taken out by snipers, and Marco himself has a target on his chest, literally, ending the episode.
Sonya gets her chance to talk to Eleanor and honestly, doesn't really learn much. Somehow, Eleanor figures out that Sonya has the ledger; it turns out that Hank hid it before he was taken by Cesar. Eleanor also reveals that she is working for herself, that Sebastian failed her, and that Romina is his weakness.
I'm not sure how any of that helps Sonya, since she has no chance of saving Romina by herself. Even Marco has a slim chance of doing that.
Eleanor is eventually taken away by CIA agent Buckley. It is unclear to me whether or not she was working for Buckley the entire time. I suspect that it's either that, or that she is now working for Buckley exclusively.
Linder and Eva are watching Capitan Robles. But Eva has a change of heart, it seems, thinking that killing Robles is too dangerous. They end up elsewhere, and Eva shaves Linder's beard. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Robles, if they bother to do anything about him, or if Eva's desire for a new life will lead them to go elsewhere.
Also, Frye and Adriana broke into McKenzie's garage and stole his files. That means they'll be on to the DEA vs. CIA conflict that will probably shape the remainder of the season and maybe future seasons of the series, if it gets renewed.
