Bleach 588 - The Headless Star 7

New Bleach chapter.  Let's talk about it, etc.

Spoilers abound, per usual.

Just when you think things are getting interesting, the rug gets yanked out from under you.  And then the back of your head hits a cold floor.

Here's what's going on, in a nutshell: continued from last chapter, the Quincy trio of Bach, Haschwald, and Ishida are in the Soul King's realm and are ready to throw down.  Haschwald calls in some guys and they're met by one of the Royal Guard (Zero Division), Kirinji.

Back in Seireitei, you've got the continuation of the battle that's been going on since Ichigo returned.  The shinigami that are on his "side" (his "nakama", for lack of a better term) are fighting against the remaining Stern Ritter.

And that's pretty much it.  Haschwald gives condolences and apologizes for some reason that's impossible to make out before calling in the troops.  Kirinji acts like a dumbass, as is his wont (and the rest of the Zero Division, really).  And whatever happens in Seireitei is boring and has no impact on the story as a whole.

Battle manga has battles, I guess.

What would really be interesting is if the Quincy trio just annihilates the shit out of the Royal Guard.  It would also be expedient, which isn't the worst thing in the world.  If the Quincy trio has to fight each member of the Royal Guard three-on-one (or if Haschwald does all the dirty work and takes them out one at a time), this is going to take forever.

It may be worth noting that Kirinji calls himself "Divine General of the East". Since there are five members of the Zero Division (that we know about), my assumption is that three of the other ones occupy similar positions with Ichibei (the master of names) sitting above them.

At the same time, I don't know if that means anything, because at this point they look like so much fodder and Bach looks unstoppable.
