The Bridge (US) - Season 2, Episode 2 "Ghost of a Flea" Recap

Season 2 of The Bridge continues!

Spoilers and...somewhat less confusion after the cut.

I still have no idea what the titles mean.  Although one of the DEA agents made a reference to "yankee", so maybe there'll be an explanation before the season ends.

Anyway, Episode 2 of The Bridge aired last night.  Altogether, it was much less confusing, but not totally without confusion per se.

It also revolved around the character of Eleanor Nacht.  I had a feeling she might be someone important!  As it turns out, she works for the cartel headed by noted miscreant/poor dresser Fausto Galvan.  Not only that, but the fellow she dragged along with her across the border was an enforcer for Galvan as well!

Eleanor was a busy lady.  She had guy's ear cut off, left a house full of dead bodies for a lawyer to find, and set a hybrid loose in eternal circles with her enforcer pal's dead body inside.  Then when that was done, she had to take a shower.

As it happens, two kids rode up at the end of the premiere and the first scene from Ep. 2 deals with this.  The kid who stuck around is named Kyle; he functioned as errand boy/gofer for Eleanor while she did various things.  And at the end of the episode, he was rewarded by getting to touch her naked body.  Then a mysterious sound was heard and the screen went black.

Damn cliffhangers.

Sonya and Hank are already on to Eleanor though.  They've been apprised of the situation by the DEA and Sonya got Detective Cooper (played by Johnny Dowers) to put out an APB on Eleanor after finding video of her entering the country.  They also found the hybrid that was running in circles and figured out whose body was in it (again, thanks to the DEA).

They also found a dead dog and another body in the basement of a taxidermist.  Apparently, the dead man was a DEA agent.  His gruesome end will probably be explored at a later date.

The erstwhile journalists Frye and Mendez (Matthew Lillard and Emily Rios) are chasing down a lead about deportations or some such.  I'm not really plugged in to this part of the story, because it seems so disconnected from the rest. They talk to a cross-dresser by the name of Raul Quintana, who leads them to a house with guess what?  Another dead body.  The bodies are piling up awfully quickly and this is only Ep. 2!

Marco Ruiz is having his own problems.  Other guys in his station aren't giving him enough respect, so he has to pound one guy's face to get their attention. There are many exhortations of cabron involved.  He has a meeting with the new state prosecutor and eventually gets called out to Yovani Garza's house. Garza was the enforcer sent into the US with Eleanor.

Who does Marco meet there?  Why, no other than Capitan Robles, his boss, and Fausto Galvan!

Honestly, I wasn't all that surprised.  Given Marco's desire for revenge against David Tate (from last season) and the deal he sought to make with Galvan, it was damn inevitable that Marco would be doing something for Galvan.  In this case, it's going up to El Paso to assist Sonya in finding Eleanor.  Of course, Marco is tasked to "retrieve" her.  This obviously has implications that we're not currently aware of, though I think I can safely speculate that she's gone off the farm, so to speak, and Galvan wants her back.

Marco meets with Sonya at her house.  She is blissfully unaware of any ulterior motive that Marco might have about wanting to find Eleanor or helping with this new case.

So far through two episodes, we've seen little of Linder and none of Charlotte. However, the preview for Ep. 3 shows that both characters should be getting involved in earnest.  We'll talk about that next week!
