Spoilers after the cut.
"The Thin Ice" basically revolves around three characters: 2nd VC Omaeda, 10th VC Matsumoto, and 10th Captain Hitusgaya. Basically, what we have here is the start of another prolonged battle, this time between shinigami and the Quincy Stern Ritter.
I'll be honest, Omaeda and Hitsugaya aren't among my favorite characters. Neither of them are very interesting, and neither one will have much of an impact on how the series eventually ends.
Omaeda is seen consoling his sister (I didn't know he had a younger one) while wondering what happened to the residential area. He then comes across the man who stole his captain's bankai. I can't imagine that this will go well for Omaeda; he's not much of a fighter and doesn't seem to be disciplined enough.
Hitsugaya's fight against Buzz-B (a fire user) continues from the end of the previous chapter. It looks like it resolves fairly quickly as well, despite his thin ice. Apparently, he and Matsumoto have worked out a solution to his no bankai predicament. I'm not sure how believable it is, but I guess it works in the context of the manga.
On the whole, an uninteresting chapter that stretches out the run-time of this arc and makes me more convinced that the manga won't end until it reaches chapter 600. I don't care about low-level shinigami like Omaeda and Hitsugaya, especially when CC Kyouraku is potentially about to fight Haschwald and Ichigo, Isshin, and Urahara are still in places unknown.
