A night of disappointment on Day 20.
First, Pittsburgh vs. NY Rangers.
Another day, another game in which the Rangers barely bothered to show up.
Although, if you look at the shots on goal, that tells a different story.
Then again, the Penguins already had a lead they were in no danger of surrendering. Why bother trying to score more when you've got a brick wall in goal and the Rangers' power play is inept?
It's turning from "the Rangers are occasionally inconsistent" to "the Rangers are getting outplayed and are in danger of losing in 5".
And since Fleury has earned two shutouts in a row, I imagine that Penguins fans are thinking that his dark days of playoff ineptitude are behind him.
Oh, and Crosby scored a goal. All is well, people. All is well.
Pittsburgh leads 2-1. Game 4 is Wednesday.
Last, Los Angeles vs. Anaheim.
It's funny that with all the hand-wringing (here included, obviously) about the Ducks' goaltending, that they managed to lose their first two games in this series while scoring a whopping three goals.
Obviously, that's not the way to win, unless you're shutting out the opponent. And while Jonas Hiller is good, he's not quite there yet. Actually, I shouldn't say that, since Hiller's pretty much the best thing about the Ducks in this series so far. The score says 3-1, but the third goal was an empty-netter.
I think it's safe to say that Hiller is keeping pace with the more heralded (and overrated) Quick. But since his team isn't putting up the goals, oh well.
It's looking ...not good for Anaheim. Down 2-0 and losing both games at home, where they started on an incredible point streak...ugh. Getzlaf continues to produce while his cohort squirts water into other guys' gloves.
Yup, that'll get it done.
Los Angeles leads 2-0. Game 3 is Thursday.
Later today, Game 3 in Boston and Chicago. Oh yeah!
